Earl Tutu | Rastanaut. album

Earl Tutu Rastanaut
Meltdown show favourite and well respected musician Earl Tutu finally released his debut album at the back end of 2012 after a lifetime working in music.

When i first received the album i couldn’t wait to press play, and when i did i was blown away by what he had created.

Earl has captured a timeless feeling and depth through-out “Rastanaut” which after countless listens I’m still hearing and discovering something new. He’s a serious musical talent no doubt, who has fused everything i love about music into one package. This is a melting pot of his musical journey through life, his influences and experiences resulting in a Soulful, Funky Jazzy Psychadelic sound for Chilling to or dancing to.

Moonchild | Don’t Wake Me. [Download]

Moonchild-Dont-Wake-Me

This trio of musicians based in Los Angeles aims to bring a new sound to the neo-soul genre while drawing upon other influences such as Erykah Badu, Bon Iver, John Coltrane and D’Angelo.

Max, Andris, and Amber met at USC where they all studied jazz performance. After touring together as a horn section in 2011, they began co-writing and recording their first album “Be Free” which was released in late April 2012 and features soloists Ben Wendel, Russell Ferrante, John Daversa, and rapper Harry Mack.

Since their album release, Moonchild have opened for Stevie Wonder and Georgia Anne Muldrow, played shows up the west coast, released music videos, and received much attention from neo-soul blogs all over the internet. They currently sell albums at record stores around the US and are receiving airplay in Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles and here on the Meltdown show.

While Moonchild continues to perform they have also started working on their second album – to be released around May 2013. Until that happens they have uploaded a new single to enjoy which they’re giving away as a free download via their Bandcamp page.

Jesse Futerman | “Exquisite Basement”

Jesse-Futerman-Exquisite-Basement
..
Jesse Futerman returns once more to complete his trilogy of free digital EPs for Jus Like Music Records with his Exquisite Basement EP.

Following on from Super Basement and Fuse The Witches, the new EP, Exquisite Basement exudes a grown sound from Jesse. Commencing with the house-like ‘Trouble Man’ – a glimpse into his more uptempo material – the EP showcases that typical Futerman dusty, jazz breaks soulful sound, but with more body and soul than ever before.

In his own words; “Exquisite Basement marks the final chapter in my free EP trilogy on Jus Like Music Records. Everything you hear, with the exception of Jon Foster’s drums on the last song, is 100% samples – whether it be film, music or even some clips from old sci fi radio shows. Exquisite Basement marks not only the end of my free EPs, but also the end of my ’100% downtempo’ output. Look out for ‘The Love I Lost’ EP on Jus Like Music Records late 2013 on vinyl as it will showcase my new more ‘uptempo’ productions, as well continuing a similar downtempo style which is present on this ep. I hope you enjoy it.”

Snakehips | On & On

Snakehips-On&On
London-based production duo Snakehips present their debut release ‘On & On’ – an impressive musical slice of electronica, featuring the sultry vocals of hotly tipped Australian beauty, George Maple. Having recently been compared to the likes of Jessie Ware and Sade, Maple’s dulcet tones fit seamlessly within ‘On & On’. Combining the sounds of hip-hop and soulful R&B, ‘On & On’ is an impressive and memorable track in what is set to be a staple sound of the summer.

Tom Glide featuring Timmy Thomas | “Sweet Heaven”

TomGlidefeatTimmyThomas-SweatHeaven
….
With some four decades in the music business Timmy Thomas has given us golden gems like ‘Why Can’t We Live Together’ (1972), with its memorable stripped-down production of Hammond organ and percussion to his soulful vocal, along with classics under the T.K.Disco label such as ‘Stone To The Bone’ and much more besides, seeing him consistently topping the R&B charts. Here now then, under the umbrella of Tom Glide’s ‘All Stars’, another hit is assured.
With remixes from the likes of the equally prolific talents of UK producers Matt Early and 12 Shades, along with some stunning keyboards by JD 73, this release of ‘Sweet Heaven’, is another vibrant step in the on-going march of Tom Glide and company, here with Markus Kater and Stephen Tucker in Miami (the two guys who made the connection with Timmy Thomas happen)…”
