Earl Tutu | Rastanaut. album

Earl Tutu Rastanaut
Meltdown show favourite and well respected musician Earl Tutu finally released his debut album at the back end of 2012 after a lifetime working in music.

When i first received the album i couldn’t wait to press play, and when i did i was blown away by what he had created.

Earl has captured a timeless feeling and depth through-out “Rastanaut” which after countless listens I’m still hearing and discovering something new. He’s a serious musical talent no doubt, who has fused everything i love about music into one package. This is a melting pot of his musical journey through life, his influences and experiences resulting in a Soulful, Funky Jazzy Psychadelic sound for Chilling to or dancing to.

Deborah Magdalena | FUNKdalena

Inspired by theological experiences, love addiction, redemption from an emotional suicide, and 70’s Latin Soul music, Miami-based Puerto Rican actress/poet Deborah Magdalena gave birth to FUNKdalena, her first album in 10 years:

Produced by her long time musical collaborator The Brass King, this dynamic duo have meshed, hashed, re-arranged, composed, poetically ciphered, fixed and remixed tracks inspired by funk and soul legends including Eddie Palmieri, Jimmy Smiths, Roy Ayers, Tanya Gardner, Donny Hathaway, The Delfonics, and Earth Wind & Fire.

With FUNKdalena Deborah bares her poetic soul while celebrating her Latin and Jazz FUNK roots. Her Latin Grammy winning brother Nestor Torres jams along with his famed Jazz flute on “Voodoo Princess”, a poem they co-wrote 8 years ago. Deborah pays homage to her late aunt Ruth Fernandez on “Mi Tia” featuring Rafael Hernández’s legendary hit “Gracias Mundo”.
FUNKdalena also features the powerful vocals of Antonia Jenaé in what is slated to be the next women’s anthem, “Diosa”, and listeners are in for another treat with “Razones”- a unique Spanish take on Earth Wind & Fire’s “Reasons”, with vocals by up-and-coming singer, Kinetic.

HomeBase Poetry Vol. 1 Featuring Mothers Favorite Child

HomeBase Poetry: Paris Toon who’s already a familiar name here sent me this wicked poetry album over for airplay a little while back, which features work from one of the largest open mics in the US, right in the heart of Phoenix the oasis in the desert. What they do on a Sunday nights is quick becoming legendary and the evidence is in the listening.

Tracks from the album have already been getting support here on the Meltdown show with plenty of highlights to choose from including a version of  Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” the dope “Mis Educated” from Real Talk and this contemporary twist on Gil Scott Heron’s “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”.

Diggs Duke | “Patiently, We Bloom” | New Music

All living creatures are impatient at the beginning of Spring. We become anxious about the coming of Summer. By March, everyone loathes the long winter that’s frosted over our lives, turning them cold and boring. This song uses the beauty of the blooming season as a metaphor for action. Specifically, the poem in the song personifies a perennial plant, as it awaits the coming of another opportunity. Patiently, we look for an opening. Patiently, we sit. Patiently, we bloom.

All Vocals and Instruments Performed by Diggs Duke
Taken from Official Projects
Release date: Mar 26, 2012
